Buttock augmentation, or butt implants, involves the surgical insertion of artificial implants into the buttocks in order to enhance their size and shape. This surgery is frequently sought by women who are unhappy with the size of their buttocks. Some feel their buttocks lack shape, while others want to have a more sensuous backside by making them larger and rounder. This “unhappiness” and “uncontentedness” of those who desire buttock augmentation are those whose buttocks generally lack fat in the area, or are unable to develop proportionate gluteal muscles. But the desire to have bigger and firmer buttocks is most attributed to singer/actress Jennifer Lopez or Jay-Lo. Her buttock or booty was even rumored to have been insured which only added to the hype and drove many women into seeking plastic surgeons who could enhance their buttocks, thereby causing a rise in the number of buttock augmentation procedures performed.
There are two techniques used for buttock augmentation: the buttocks implants and the fat transfer to the buttocks. In buttocks implants, the process is similar to breast implants. An implant made of elastomer is inserted after the buttock is sliced open with a low incision on the buttock. Fat transfer consists of a combination of liposuction around and into the buttocks. Fat taken from one area of the body is then injected into the buttocks using a syringe.
