One who is fond with the great outdoors would really love sport fishing, especially fly fishing. With fly fishing, fish are caught by using artificial flies cast using a fly fishing rod and a fly line. Fish which are aimed to be caught in fly fishing are usually trout and salmon, but may also include other species like pike, bass, panfish, grayling and carp, as well as marine species, such as redfish, snook, tarpon, bonefish and striped bass.
The main tool for fly fishing is the fly fishing rod. Fly fishing rods are thin and flexible, thin, designed for casting an artificial fly. An artificial fly consists of a hook tied with lightweight material like fur, feathers, or foam. Modern artificial flies are tied with synthetic materials. Modern fly fishing rods are made of composite materials like fiberglass, carbon/graphite, or graphite/boron.
A fly fishing rod uses the weight of the fly line for casting its fly, unlike other rods which rely on the weight of the lure. The size of the fly fishing rod depends on several factors: the fish that is being sought, wind and water conditions and the weight of line. Larger and heavier lines are used for casting heavier flies. Fly fishing rods come in different line sizes, starting at size #000 to #0 for the smallest freshwater fish like trout and pan fish up to size #16 rods for large saltwater game fish.
