The main tool of anyone who is in photography is the camera. Nowadays, most photographers use digital cameras, only a handful have stuck to the traditional film type. When one looks at any digital camera on sale, in a store, online or sold by another person, the first feature mentioned is the camera’s resolution. Most people simply go for a camera with high mega pixel resolution, never bothering to find the reason behind the high mega pixels; what high resolutions photography is all about.
High resolution photography deals with cameras whose resolutions reach 12 mega pixels or more. Resolution refers to the amount of detail a camera can capture in a photograph, measured in pixels. The more pixels that a camera has means it can capture more detail as well; enlarged pictures don’t become blurry or grainy. Having a high resolution camera means having more pixels to work with, very important during photo printing. High resolution gives better print quality and becomes an advantage during image cropping.
High resolutions photography clearly has its advantages over average resolution especially for the really serious photographer. But there are a few drawbacks to keep in mind. Higher resolution cameras are more expensive than lower resolution digital cameras. Also, higher resolution digital cameras of the same type / brand will work slower than their lower resolution brothers. It takes more time to process, compress, and save a larger image.
