Managers and company owners always see to it that everything around the company, the workplace and work area is running smoothly. Anything that might affect the productivity, efficiency, and work output must be dealt with immediately before the company starts having substantial losses from that problem. A broken machine must be repaired, a defective one must be replaced, and outdated ones must be upgraded. When it comes to employees though, resolving problems take a different approach. Employees are protected by labor laws, by the principle of security of tenure, so you cannot just fire them and hire new people. If an employee is ineffective because of personal problems, laying him off isn’t the first option. He must be helped in dealing with those personal problems.
Most people who are working do understand that personal problems must not be allowed to hamper with their work productivity. However, sometimes it just can’t be helped. A quarrel with your husband/wife, a troublesome child, problems of the heart, alcoholism, these are examples of personal problems. It cannot be helped that a person brings this to his place of work. Personal problems become emotional burdens and they affect how you work. Some personal problems just go or fade away; some linger and build up, to the point that an employee becomes almost unfit to work.
