Learn To Play The Electric Guitar – 3 Rules Of The Guitar Gods

I know why you want to learn to play the electric guitar. I know this because I was the same way. You want to play because there’s no better feeling in the world than to impress other people by jamming out a few of your favorite songs!

It is an amazing feeling when it all comes together and you start to play actual music. And the rush you get strumming some songs is like nothing you have ever experienced.

If you are like I was, you want to know how to learn to play the electric guitar As fast as possible. Here are 3 ways the Guitar Gods did it:

1. Learn the basic chords – this, in my opinion, is the most boring part! But, it’s essential. You have to learn the basic chords if you want to learn to play the electric guitar. What I initially did was use a book to learn how to read the chords and how to position my fingers. Big mistake – learning by reading a book was horrible because I had no reference point, just some pictures of the chords. I never knew if my fingers were positioned correctly or if the sound was right. You’re much better off either buying a DVD or joining one of the online guitar courses so you can see what the heck to do.

2. Practice, practice, practice – everybody always told me, “if you want to learn to play the electric guitar, you have to practice!” And practicing really is pretty boring. But it’s not this easy amigo. Do you really think Joe Satriani, Angus Young or Eddie Van Halen just decided to start playing the guitar one day and started playing like a true Guitar God? Nope, not even close. It is imperative that if you want to learn to play the electric guitar you set aside time and practice each and every day to know the chords and position your fingers correctly. The more you practice, the faster you will get to where you want to be.

3. Play along with songs – once you get the basic chords down and you practice to where you can move from one chord to the next fluidly, start playing along with your favorite songs. Get some jam tracks to play along with. By doing so, 1) you will get better and better, and 2) you will have a heck of a lot more fun. You will actually start to learn to play the electric guitar at an accelerated pace once you start jamming along to some songs.

Once these 3 things are mastered, you can move on to more advanced techniques like hammer-ons, pull-offs and bending. You can even start to learn some picking and speed techniques to get that fluid, rocking sound.
