Raising a family does not come with a manual so most parenting is based on previous generation standards. When these standards seems futile with a problem, parents suffer in despair silently and the problem is unsolved and causes further rift between parents and their children. Parents fear of loosing authority over their kids by appearing to be confused or helpless. Lately, more parents have found relief seeking parental help in special programs like family counseling and parenting classes.
Seeking parental help is now acceptable and can improve parenting skills that is more relevant with today’s family issues. Parenting needs empowerment to be effective. Parents still need help in improving their management skills especially with their children. Parenting classes or counseling can suggest practical tips in handling various situations beyond the parents’ capacity. Honest communication, social involvement, and household rules are usual contents of modern parenting along with the traditional input of values education. The family is being redefined as a unit of society capable of being a source of mutual support system and a problem solving unit. Authority has given way to mutual respect and acceptance for most happy families today.
All family members are a work in progress, parents included. Parental help are venues to explore possible solutions from co-parents and or professionals for specific family issues. Parents find ways to empower themselves to become better parents for their kids because they would like to give their children the best they got.
