Like other kinds of fraud, government fraud should never be tolerated and must be investigated. People who commit fraud should be brought to justice and be made accountable to their actions especially if this is government fraud. Fraud is the intention to deceive somebody to gain something of value. Corruption done by government officials can be considered as government fraud because they tricked their constituents so that they can gain something from their deceitful ways.
What makes government fraud very special is because this kind of fraud is committed by people whom the ordinary citizen trusts to make everybody else’s life easier. Government fraud is much more disdainful because public funds are used – funds that the citizens worked hard for. This is public money and government officials should be able to use it wisely for the good of the country. What makes this kind of fraud even more hurtful is that government officials who participate in activities that are fraudulent use the people’s money.
Government fraud will definitely affect every citizen’s life and officials who are a part of any kind of fraud, however big or small the amount is, should be prosecuted. Government fraud even has the potential to affect the nation’s security if left unchecked.
